Guidelines
& Procedures for a Miniature Dachshund Rescue Service
Rescue Dachshund Definition:
All
Dachshunds, whether currently located in an SPCA shelter or in a home where a
problem has arisen, necessitating placement in an adoptive home, or a lost dog
returned to its owner.
The Miniature Dachshund Club of BC (MDCBC) has
established a Dachshund Rescue Committee,
with a club member designated the Rescue Coordinator, assisted by two members
as Rescue Assistants.
The Terms of
Reference of the Rescue Committee are as follows:
1. All
Dachshunds in distress that are notified to the committee will be taken into
temporary care. An Application Form will be completed by owners requesting rescue
services.
2. At the discretion of the Rescue Committee, a club member may be requested to support and provide temporary care and assistance as may be required.
3. If the breeders are known they will be asked to accept their dogs back.
4. All Standard Dachshunds will be passed to Ms. Bonnie Hayward for action.
5. General members will authorize the Rescue Committee to spend a maximum of $100.00, for immediate use in the rescue of any miniature dachshund.
6. The
Rescue Committee will decide how much care over and above $100.00 will be
provided to any one miniature Dachshund rescued.
Operating Criteria
1. Each rescue case to be based on the individual dog.
2. Not every dog will need to be checked by a veterinarian, as some dogs will come with their health records.
3.
Before placement, home visitations are a
necessity to check for suitability of the home and the occupants.
Rescue Fund
General members of MDCBC will establish an initial Rescue
Fund of $300.00 from club resources. The
Rescue Fund will be operated by the Club Treasurer under the direction of the
Rescue Coordinator and funds will be expended exclusively on rescue costs. The Club Board of Directors, at their
discretion, may annually recommend to members, further appropriations of Club
resources to the Rescue Fund.
The Rescue Committee may organize fund raising
activities, proceeds from which will be used to augment the Rescue Fund, for
the direct benefit of rescue efforts and initiatives.
The Rescue Fund will continue to be a part of the general
finances of MDCBC.
Reporting
The Rescue Committee will provide a brief status report
quarterly to the Board with details of activities and finances. A summary of rescue activities will be included
in the quarterly newsletter.
